Spain

Land of Samba and Sangria

I've not seen much of Spain yet, but I can confidently say that it's a beautiful country full of fantastic attractions and great culture. There's also great geographic diversity across the region, especially if you include the Canary Islands. Not only does it have hundreds of miles of Mediterranean coastline, it has active volcanoes and up to 8 different mountain ranges supporting a central massif. My two trips to Spain so far (because I will be back!) have taken me to Tenerife and Barcelona.

Myself and Asia travelled to Tenerife in 2011, before we moved back to Poland and got married, and had the most awesome week exploring the island. Tenerife is one of the largest of the Canary Islands, and boasts not only Spains' highest peak in El-Tiede which is also an active volcano! The island is built around El-Tiede, and it dominates the landscape from all points of the compass.

That said, Tenerife has plenty else going for it, from Loro Parque to the black sand beaches in the South, to the cliffs of Los Gigantes, Siam park and more. Enough to keep a family entertained for weeks, that's for sure!

More recently, I traveled with Lucas to Barcelona for a weekend City break; Another city that blew me away! Big, but in a good way (visualize: wide pavements, pedestrian-friendly, not congested), welcoming, well-organized with an excellent transport network, and with stunning architecture around every corner.

While we managed to see some of the main attractions, including Sagrada Familia, Camp Nou, and Tibidabo, I'm well aware there is a LOT we didn't have time to see. Partly because there's just so much of it, but mostly because this was a no-stress weekend away, focusing on mental wellbeing (read: lots of visits to the pub) and time away from the everyday stress of life.

Considering my experiences to date, I cannot wait to see more of this amazing country. I'm pretty sure my next adventure is going to create just as many awesome memories as the first two have.
