The once great Empire of...
I've always had a bit of a Love/Hate relationship with England if I'm honest. I love London, for a weekend, but I hated living there. I love Kent and the Cotswolds, but I hated living in Norfolk. I love passing through Heathrow, but I hate how you can never catch a connecting flight from the same airport in London!
I mean, it's not all bad, but it definitely isn't all (or even mostly) good either...

So, maybe let's start with the good bits. London is awesome for a weekend. You'll see next to nothing from the total scope of what it has to offer, but it also won't overwhelm you or break the bank. I tend to see the same things every time, but that makes me happy.
Traveling down to Kent is always a delight; it's one of the most beautiful areas of the UK, and it's full of old towns and villages, graveyards, pubs, and golf courses. Oxford, though I've only been once, is awesome if you love your history. And then there's the natural world, including the Lake district, which is definitely on my bucket list!
For all the above though, England isn't the place it used to be. It's much more dangerous now, people seem just generally unhappier (though this is true for all of the UK), the NHS is falling apart, the Government is truly useless (all of them, not one particular party), and basic social services just seem to be eroding year-on-year.
I say the above knowing I still live in the UK, but where else would you go these days?
Anyway, overall England has more history than most of the rest of the World, and it's got a reputation for punching above its weight, considering its relatively small size and population. Tourism is still, and probably always will be, one if its greatest sources of income, and it has plenty of beauty spots to go alongside the monuments.
They must be doing something right, therefore?
